Gadgets! Gidgets! and Widgets! These are My WebWidgets... This page contains links to tools and references. The intention is to link only to tools and sites that we have used are familiar with. In this regard we can give some guidance and occasional support. Websites require that one wear a number of various hats: Web Designer: Creates the look and feel of the site. The Multimedia & Graphics Designer creates the logos, pictures, videos, and icons on the site. The Programmer: ensures the site works (navigation and behavior) and integrates it with any data bases that might be used. The Web Master may have some or all of these skills but may, in fact, just be the point-of-contact for the site administration. Finally, there is the Web host. This is the space or home on the internet where you web site resides and where the Internet brings visitors who type in your site URL (Universal Resource Locator) or www.yoursite.com. MyWebWidgets wears all these hats. Initially we did so only for our own endeavors (CyberSprockets.com, BaySalers.com and this site). Eventually one of clients requested that we give them a competitive bid to do their site and it grew from there. Web Design and Programming was not our initial forte, so we tended to use freeware and shareware whenever possible. Professional Web Programmers can and sometimes write code in HTML or Hyper Text Markup Language. It can be a daunting task for the uneducated. Most programmers now use some program or interface that provides WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) functionality. We prefer Microsoft's FrontPage since it's what we learned first and IT'S EASY! The serious web programmer is eventually going to need some more robust software for image editing, flash creation, icon and graphics creation, etc. PhotoShop does it all but it cost's over $500 so... There are a lot options out there available for download or web based (where you do your thing online and download the result) Some of it is what most would consider affordable and many offer free trials.
